 Mathematics and the good, revis(it)ed

 ABSTRACT:

This paper explores the relationship between mathematics and the good, alongside the writings of Alfred North Whitehead and Jan Zwicky. This involves studying both the concept of the “good” and how it might be understood, as well as the changing nature of the discipline of mathematics. I explore three layers of the good as they relate to classical, modern and contemporary mathematics, exploring the idea of the good as a partial disclosure. This stratigraphic approach allows me to trace out some aesthetic and ethical aspects of mathematics for both the human and more-than-human.
